|SF DRIVE TOTALS: 14 plays, 63 yards, 5:45|
The first timeout was burned to avoid a delay of game penalty.
The second timeout was burned for god knows what reason.
Kaepernick forgot to burn the third one and got a delay of game. Kidding! A delay of game is no big deal. But he didn’t know that, he just refuses to look at the clock.
The third timeout, well at that point you might as well go all in.
The point is the drive failed with 1:17 left. Time was not an issue yet. The 49ers needed to finish that drive with all timeouts in case they failed to score. WHICH THEY DID. So instead of having three timeouts and just needing a stop, Jay Cutler just had to kneel a couple times to end the game.
No wonder the 49ers don’t seem worried about extending Jim Harbaugh, and tried to trade him to the Browns in the offseason. Speaking of the Browns, Harbaugh’s clock management is practially Shurmurian, if you remember the 2011 and 2012 seasons at the factory of sadness.
On the bright side for the 49ers, the Harbaugh/Kaepernick alliance didn’t burn a timeout on the first play of the 2nd half the way they did in that playoff game. Andy Reid was probably greenish red with jealous rage, thinking it was a brave new strategy.
